Def Jam x adidas Originals

def jam adidas originals sneakers 1 Def Jam x adidas Originals

Def Jam. The two words have been synonymous with a culture, a style and music. Beginning in a college dormitory room 25 years ago, Russell Simmons and Rick Rubin wanted to introduce the world to new music – hip hop music. Rubin had been busy producing rock records and Russell had helped launch his brother’s group, Run DMC. The first releases with Def Jam Recordings catalogue numbers were by LL Cool J and the Beastie Boys. Not a bad start. Then came EPMD, Slick Rick, Public Enemy, the film Krush Groove and the list goes on. Def meant cool, hip, stylish and Def Jam made the music that went with that attitude. That was the beginning.

The second coming of Def Jam began with acts like Method Man, Redman, Ludacris, Ashanti, and of course Jay-Z and Kanye West. Def Jam is a real living thing. It still stands for cool, hip, stylish music and culture.

adidas has been there from the beginning as the brand of choice for Russell, Run DMC, LL, The Beastie Boys and everyone that surrounded them. There has always been an unmistakable link between their music and culture and the trefoil and 3 stripes. Now adidas is officially collaborating on a collection of footwear and apparel, bringing to life our linked DNA.

If you’re in the US, adidas Originals is offering you a chance to enter-to-win a Def Jam sweepstakes and play an online contest with a grand prize trip to New York. To enter visit: www.adidas.com/originals

Also, Jeezy will be appearing at the Atlanta Originals store on August 9th.

adidas & Maharishi ‘mahadidas XV’ Collection

adidas maharishi mahadidas xv collection adidas & Maharishi mahadidas XV Collection

Continuing the meeting-of-minds the Five-Two 3 collection instigated with the Maharishi Stan Smith makeup, Maharishi’s expertise with technical fabrics and ‘decommisioned’ military history mixed with adidas’s heavyweight athletic heritage has generated a capsule collection of design classics that blends seminal shoe designs and apparel with premium innovation, painstaking levels of attention-to-detail and heavyweight thought processes. Blending a strong focus on visual appeal, while dwelling on timeless quality that’s built to last, this project amplifies the best of both brands as the ‘mahadidas’ XV collection celebrates 15 years of Maharishi with their trademark precision.

Since 1983, the Forum has defined 3-Striped court dominance, but with an aptitude for taking to more offbeat makeups, the chambray-style material on this mid-cut variation harks back to WWII regulation naval gear, complimented by a matching blue leather toward the rear. Subtle, contrasting embroidery sets things off perfectly, and this mixture of hardwearing military semi-formality with the timeless panels and imposing silhouette of a basketball favourite captures the current preoccupation with the historical and wearable aspects of workwear perfectly, finished with ‘mahidas’ branding, black metal eyelets, a correlating blue outsole, and a subtle dragon logo on the heel.

The Superstar track top is an instantly recognisable piece of adidas apparel that’s spanned decades, but reworked in a specially developed Baumwoll-Chambray, it’s the definitive mix of the Superstar design DNA with this equally timeless and premium material choice for a more rugged take on a favourite. Steeped in Maharishi’s mastery when it comes to the more esoteric side of military influences, this jacket is finished with a branded vision zipper and both partner logos split across the left and right chests, plus a final ‘XV’ collaboration print rendered in plastisol on the back and stripe branding down the arms.

The over-the-head fit of adidas’s Hooded Flock track top has been a seasonal mainstay, but that simple, staple look offers a blank canvas for a unique reworking, and Maharishi have collaborated with adidas to create a blue melange French terry specially for this garment that’s soft but resilient, complemented by navy stripes. Building on the top’s usual look and feel, this continues a collective mission to explore new approaches to clothing, pushing things forward without losing sight of the original appeal, completed with a Maharishi-branded vision zipper, plus plastisol chest branding and an ‘XV’ back print.

A fresh take on a favourite, the comfortable slim fit tee from Maharishi and adidas continues the quest for the perfect t-shirt, generating the ideal piece to wear out or as an undershirt. In line with the origins of the t-shirt’s trend-level popularity last century, a more fitted cut allows a more flattering, timeless look, rendered in a flecked blue melange single jersey developed for this special line of dual-branded products, with a plasticol project print on the sleeve and a ‘mahidas’ chest patch.
